COVER STORY

Having now grown a spine to accommodate its chunky 108-pages, Offline Journal's new format presents the opportunity to show up to four images by the same photographer on the cover, instead of the previous front cover only.

In the case of the new issue #015, Paul Hurlow's impressive portfolio of images made in the edgelands of Swansea allowed me to select, with his blessing, three photographs from his ongoing Crymlyn Burrows and Tennant Canal projects.

Paul describes his Crymlyn Burrows project in the audio below. You can view more from work these projects on his website and Instagram feed.

MORE STUDENTS PLEASE

I've had several people get in touch following my piece in the last Newsletter reflecting on very few students attending the recent EYE Festival in Newport. All were in agreement on this being an important but also complex topic with many hurdles.

Previously only fully available to Subscribers, the short essay 'Beyond the Lecture Theatre: Students, Festivals and Practice' is now available to all - free to read - via the link below.

Offline supporters on the Newsletter Plus, or either Print Subscription can leave comments to join in the discussion and offer up their own suggestions. If you have constructive ideas or a strong opinion on this important topic (which, from my own experience, extends beyond Festivals to opening events, photowalks and social meet-ups) – do consider adding your voice to the conversation via a small £3 payment for just a month's subscription – all support helps cover the cost of this website. Thanks.

David Hurn and the American Flag

With the book having arrived fresh from the printers (Gomer Press in Mid Wales) this past week, I sat down with photographer David Hurn to get the background story of his latest book 'New York and the American Flag', published by RRB Photobooks.

Copies of David Hurn's 'New York and the American Flag' are available now from RRB's website via the button below.
