Terms & Conditions

These Terms and Conditions apply to your use of the Offline Journal website, including browsing the site, submitting forms, interacting with our content, purchasing printed materials, buying or renewing subscriptions, and using payment links provided through the site.

By using the website or making a purchase, you agree to these Terms.

1. About us

This website is operated by Offline Journal.
Contact: [email protected]

2. Use of the website

You may use this website for lawful purposes only. You must not misuse the site, interfere with its operation, share subscription access, attempt unauthorised access, submit harmful or unlawful material, or use the site in a way that infringes anyone’s rights.

We may update, restrict, suspend or withdraw any part of the website at any time.

3. Website content

Website content is provided for general information and editorial purposes only. We take reasonable care to keep information accurate and up to date, but we do not guarantee that all content will always be complete, current or error-free.

Nothing on the website constitutes legal, financial, medical or other professional advice.

Offline Journal may sell one-year subscriptions and physical printed materials through the website or through payment links provided on the website.

Prices, product descriptions, subscription details, delivery charges, taxes, and any other applicable terms will be shown before purchase where relevant. By placing an order or completing payment, you confirm that the information you provide is accurate and that you are authorised to use the payment method.

Payments may be processed by third-party payment providers. Their own terms and privacy notices may also apply.

We may refuse or cancel an order where there is an error, suspected fraud, misuse, unavailability, or another legitimate reason.

5. One-year subscriptions

Subscriptions are sold monthly, or for a fixed period of one year unless stated otherwise at the point of purchase.

Your subscription gives you access to the subscription benefits described on the website or purchase page at the time you subscribe. Subscription benefits may include printed issues, digital access, discounts, member communications, events, or other benefits, depending on the subscription purchased.

Depending on choice of Subscription, it will automatically renew in the next month or year, but Subscribers can manage or cancel their auto-renewing subscriptions through their Subscriber account by logging in with the email address provided at sign-up. Yearly subscriptions run for the full twelve months from date of purchase and will not be refunded.

We may make reasonable changes to subscription features, publication schedules, formats or delivery methods, provided the overall subscription remains materially consistent with what was offered at purchase.

6. Printed materials and delivery

Printed materials may include journals, magazines, essays, zines, or other physical items. Product descriptions, prices and estimated delivery times will be shown on the relevant product or checkout page. Delivery times are estimates unless expressly guaranteed.

Risk in physical items passes to you when they are delivered. Ownership passes once we have received full payment.

You are responsible for providing accurate delivery details. We are not responsible for delays or failed delivery caused by incorrect or incomplete information supplied by you.

7. Consumer rights, cancellations and refunds

If you are a UK consumer, you have statutory rights under UK consumer law. Nothing in these Terms limits those rights.

For subscriptions that include printed materials, your cancellation and refund rights may depend on whether items have already been published/supplied or dispatched. Where part of a subscription has already been fulfilled, we may deduct a reasonable amount for the goods or online services already provided, where permitted by law.

You may not have a right to cancel certain items, including personalised or made-to-order printed materials, sealed items that are unsuitable for return once opened, or other exempt goods under applicable law.

Returned physical items should be sent back in good condition. Unless the item is faulty, damaged, misdescribed, or we are otherwise required to cover return costs, you will be responsible for return postage. Where a refund is due, we will normally refund using the original payment method.

8. Faulty, damaged or incorrect items

Please contact us as soon as reasonably possible, but within 14 days, if printed materials arrive faulty, damaged, incorrect or materially different from their description.

We may ask for evidence of the issue, such as photographs and/or video. Where required by law, we will offer an appropriate remedy, which may include replacement, repair, refund or partial refund.

9. Forms, submissions and interactions

You are responsible for ensuring that any information you submit through the website is accurate, lawful and not misleading.

If the website allows comments, messages, submissions, applications or other interactive features, you must not submit unlawful, abusive, defamatory, infringing, confidential or harmful material. We may remove content or restrict access where we reasonably believe these Terms have been breached.

10. Intellectual property

Unless otherwise stated, all website content, branding, design, text, images, graphics, audio, video, downloads and printed material designs are owned by or licensed to Offline Journal. All photography remains copyright of the individual or entity granting us permission to publish it.

You may view and use the website for normal personal use. You must not copy, reproduce, modify, distribute, sell, commercially exploit or republish our content without express prior written permission, except where permitted by law. Copyright theft is illegal.

The website may include links to third-party websites, platforms, payment processors, newsletters, social media pages or other services. We are not responsible for third-party content, availability, security, terms or privacy practices.

12. Privacy and cookies

Our collection and use of personal data is explained in our Privacy Policy and, where applicable, our Cookie Policy. You should read those documents alongside these Terms.

13. Availability and security

We aim to keep the website available and secure, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access or that the site will be free from bugs, errors or security issues. You are responsible for using appropriate device, browser and security protections.

14. Liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or breach of your statutory consumer rights.

Subject to that, we are not liable for losses arising from your misuse of the website, third-party services, loss of data, business interruption, loss of profit, or indirect or consequential loss, except where required by law.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The latest version will be posted on this page with the updated date.

Terms that apply to a purchase are generally the terms in force when the purchase is made, unless changes are required by law or are clearly accepted by you.

16. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, unless mandatory consumer protection laws in your place of residence require otherwise.

Any disputes will be subject to the courts of England and Wales, except where consumer law gives you the right to bring proceedings elsewhere.

This Privacy and Cookies Policy explains how Offline Journal collects, uses, stores and protects personal information when you visit our website, contact us, subscribe to Offline Journal, buy printed materials, use payment links provided on our site, sign up to communications, or otherwise interact with us.

This policy should be read together with our Terms and Conditions (above)

Purchase and subscription information, such as what you bought, subscription start and end dates, payment status, delivery status, order history, and customer service correspondence.

Payment information, which may be collected and processed by third-party payment providers. We do not usually receive or store full card details.

Website and technical information, such as IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited, referring links, approximate location, cookie preferences, and information about how you use the website.

Marketing and communication information, such as newsletter sign-ups, communication preferences, email engagement, and unsubscribe requests.

3. How we use your information

We use personal information to:

  • provide, operate and improve the website;
  • process purchases of subscriptions and printed materials;

4. Our lawful bases for using your information

Under UK data protection law, we must have a lawful basis for using personal information. Depending on the circumstances, we may rely on:

Contract — where we need to use your information to process an order, manage a subscription, deliver printed materials, or provide a service you requested.

Consent — where you sign up to certain marketing communications or agree to non-essential cookies.

Legitimate interests — where we use information to operate and improve Offline Journal, respond to enquiries, protect the website, understand our audience, and run our organisation, provided your rights do not override those interests.

Legal obligation — where we need to keep records or comply with tax, accounting, consumer protection or other legal duties.

The UK Information Commissioner’s Office explains that privacy information should tell people why their personal data is collected, how long it is kept, and who it is shared with.

5. Payments

Payments may be processed by third-party payment providers, such as Stripe.

Those providers may process payment details, billing information, fraud-prevention data and transaction records in accordance with their own terms and privacy notices. We recommend reviewing their privacy information before completing payment.

6. Delivery and fulfilment

Where you purchase printed materials or a subscription that includes physical delivery, we may share your name, postal address, order details and contact information with delivery, postal, fulfilment or logistics providers so that your order can be sent to you.

7. Newsletters and marketing

If you sign up to receive newsletters or updates from Offline Journal, we may use your email address to send you editorial updates, subscription information, offers, events, product announcements or other communications related to Offline Journal.

We will not sell your personal information to advertisers.

8. Cookies and similar technologies

Our website may use cookies and similar technologies, such as pixels, tags, local storage or analytics scripts.

Cookies are small files placed on your device. Some are necessary for the website to work properly. Others help us understand how the site is used, remember preferences, improve performance, or support marketing.

The ICO’s cookies guidance explains that organisations must give people clear information about cookies and, for non-essential cookies, provide an appropriate choice.

9. Types of cookies we may use

We may use the following categories of cookies:

Strictly necessary cookies
These are required for the website to function, such as security, checkout, basket, payment, consent preference or session cookies. These cannot usually be switched off through our cookie banner.

Preference cookies
These remember choices you make, such as region, display preferences or cookie settings.

Analytics cookies
These help us understand how visitors use the website, which pages are visited, and how the site can be improved. For example, we may use Google Analytics

Marketing or embedded content cookies
These may be set by third-party services such as video platforms, social media embeds, advertising tools or newsletter forms. These may track your interaction with embedded content or help measure campaigns.

When you first visit our website, we may ask you to accept, reject or manage non-essential cookies.

You can also manage cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how the website works, including checkout, account, subscription or payment functions.

Non-essential cookies should not be used unless you have given the required consent, where consent is required by law. UK cookie rules are currently subject to updates following the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, and the ICO notes that some cookie guidance is under review.

Some of our service providers may process information outside the UK. Where personal information is transferred internationally, we will take steps designed to ensure it is protected in accordance with applicable data protection law, such as using appropriate contractual safeguards or relying on recognised adequacy arrangements where available.

13. How long we keep information

This may include:
