Big weekend of photography
Offline Journal Newsletter - 14/05/26

'PATTERNS' exhibition opening this Friday

6pm tomorrow evening – Friday 15 May – will see the opening of Patterns – a new exhibition of photographs by David Hurn, selected around the theme by the photographer from his archive of work old and new.

Patterns will run from 15 May – 12 June in Clwb Ffoto in Newport Arcade with a new 52-page printed catalog accompanying the exhibition, available from the gallery. The opening event also marks the launch of The EYE International Photography Festival - running over Saturday in The Riverfront Theatre, and Sunday in various venues around Newport.

I hear there are various photographers coming along for the event - so come out to support the new show opening and chat!

@clwbffoto for updates

EYE FESTIVAL UPDATES...

The EYE Festival weekend is almost upon us - and there's great news for students interested in photography as a professional career path - there are now tickets available at just £27.80 for students studying with a valid student card!

This is probably the best deals photography students will see this year - with access to all the guest professional talks in The Riverfront venue on Saturday 16 May - with the full festival programme available to view on the EYE Festival website.

I'd strongly encourage students to attend as they will not only have the opportunity to chat with these world-class guest speakers but also mix and network with other photographer attendees. If you teach or know photography students - let them know!

Tickets are available now - with prices inclusive of booking fee.

Offline Journal - new issue

Big thanks to those who have already ordered a copy of the new issue, many people I have spoken to have commented on the archive theme being something that's at the back of their mind.

This ARCHIVE issue has 26 articles, many of which explore the approach and thinking by established photographers in preparing their work with a view to leaving it safe to be seen and appreciated by future audiences. And lots - too much - more!

Full content listing for the new issue can be viewed on the online store (button below)

If all goes to plan and couriers now deliver as promised, then I should be able to bring along copies of the new issue to Newport on Sunday 17 May (I had hoped they'd be here today (Thursday) but I've been informed there's been a delay at printers). Copies ordered online will start shipping from Monday 18 May.

Offline Journal issue #015 costs £18.00 plus P&P and is available to order now.

DRAW! Orders placed online for the new issue between now and midnight 18 May 2026 will be entered into a draw, with the winner receiving a full set of the printed Offline Essays**

New subscription bundles will be available from 22 May 2026.

CADER IDRIS by Pete Davis

Cover of Pete Davis' 'CADER IDRIS' softcover book

Photographer Pete Davis continues to build on his catalogue of self-published photobook titles with CADER IDRIS: Soul of a lonely place – a 210x210mm 76-page softcover book.

This is a new and expanded version of his original hardcover book with many more images than the original - now out of print. It also included all the images and 'Haiku' used in the limited edition platinum print portfolio of the work and the original introduction by Prof. Alistair Crawford and Pete's own essay on Richard Wilson's seminal painting of Cader Idris in 1765.

Two of Pete's Cader Idris images also feature in a new book by Andrew Green titled 'Cader Idris and the Artists' published by Graffeg – which has it's launch in the Turner House gallery on 3 June (see the Exhibitions & Events page)

Copies of CADER IDRIS: Soul of a lonely place are available for £10 direct from the photographer's online store
