THE EYE FESTIVAL 2025 - this weekend

Aberystwyth Arts Centre and festival director Glenn Edwards are tickling the final touches in advance of welcoming attendees to The EYE International Photography Festival, kicking off this evening and continuing over Saturday 18 - Sunday 19 October 2025.
Having been postponed last year, the guest speaker lineup for the weekend retains most of photographers, with Saturday featuring Denise Maxwell, Simon Norfolk, and Harry Borden; whilst Sunday has Joel Goodman, Eileen Perrier in conversation with Daniel Meadows, and Jenny Matthews
Continuing it's long tradition, Saturday's extended lunchtime will allow time for attendees to attend a Cyanotype workshop, a curated visit to the National Library of Wales (where the 'TRYWERYN 60' exhibition is currently showing work by renowned photojournalist Geoff Charles, and Portfolio sessions. There will also be a film screening on Saturday evening of award-winning 'Memories of Love Returned' a documentary film by Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine on Ugandan photographer Kibaate Aloysius Ssalongo (Executive produced by Steven Soderbergh).
Spaces are still available via the Festival website or visitors can book a day ticket at the venue box office.

THE ROOKERY - Now showing in Newport

Having it's first exhibition in the Futures Gallery in Cardiff Bay's Pierhead Building in May 2019, John Crerar's THE ROOKERY had it's well attended opening bash in Newport Museum and Art Gallery on Friday 26 September.
The large format colour photographs are a study of the site of a former rank of colliers' houses surrounded by a spoil tip near Risca that has now been reclaimed by nature. Crerar's images are accompanied by photographs by John Dillwyn Llewelyn, archive material and found objects "...to present a narrative of social and economic change and environmental renewal".
A highly interesting catalogue/publication on the history of the site is available from both the gallery and the photographer.

THE ROOKERY by John Crerar runs until 10 January 2026.
