PAUL BENCE
Self-publishing discussion with Paul Bence & David Mayne

Paul Bence was born in Bridgend in South Wales but now lives and works in London as a professional photographer.

When not working on client projects, Paul co-hosts the Idle Hands Society podcast with fellow photographer Dan Higginson as a way to connect with other creatives in the arts and photography. A fan of getting his hands dirty and making his own zines, he has recently founded his own self-publishing venture Southerdown Press to experiment with making new short-run photography publications for both himself and other photographic artists he admires.

Having recently agreed to be a guest on Paul and Dan’s podcast, I thought I would return the favour/torture of asking Paul to have a relaxed discussion with photographer David Mayne and myself on the topic of photography self-publishing and his aims for Southerndown Press longer term. My thanks to both.

The recording, in two parts, is just shy of two hours in duration, not exactly safe for work in a couple of places, but I think very interesting overall.
