Newsletter : 31/08/25

Hello again
You'll be receiving September's Offline Journal Newsletter next week, but I thought I'd share a couple of pieces of news on events and a new exhibition coming up – as well as a link to the updated Exhibitions and Event listings page.
There's lots going on! So do try and attend a few of the opening events in coming weeks to show your support for the participating photographers and their work!
And there's a bonus piece of very interesting listening material for paid Subscribers at the end of this post. Enjoy!
Photozine & Print Day event! 20/9/25 at The Turner House, Penarth

Offline Journal and The Turner House gallery in Penarth are once again collaborating on the next SIGNATURES event - part on an ongoing series celebrating photobooks and photography self-publishing in and from Wales.
With their 2025 Open exhibition opening on the evening of Thursday 6 September, and several photographs selected amongst many other artwork submissions, the gallery and Offline Journal will be hosting a PHOTOZINE & PRINT Day on Saturday 20 September from 11am - 3.30pm to coincide with the exhibition on both lower and upper gallery walls.
Showing photozines and prints at the event will be:
Marc Arkless • Julie Cook • Clwb Ffoto • Phil Cope • Yasmin Crawford • John Crerar • Pete Davis • Glenn Edwards • David Mayne • Ron McCormick • David Morgan-Davies • Walter Waygood • Julian McKenny
Anyone coming along on the day is very welcome to bring their own photozines (in final or dummy form) to show to, and discuss with, other attendees and table holders. And we're always looking for new additions to the ever-growing 'BOX OF ZINES' – a collection of self-published photozines of any type, made in or have work relating to, Wales. Photographers kindly donate their photozines to the collection, which are catalogued and then taken around various photography events and festival in Wales to promote photographers' images and resulting photozines.

And in addition to any remaining stock of Offline Journal's back-issues and catalog publications (at tidy reduced pricing on the day), the PHOTOZINE & PRINT Day will also host the big reveal of the printed outcome of Offline Journal's collaboration with the cohort of seven photographers in the 'CHAOS' project:
Marc Arkless, Nate Davies, Mohamed Hassan, David Mayne, Bartosz Nowicki, Owen Pritchard, and Tamsin Stirling.
The publication, titled CHAOTIC (the first part of the project), has each photographer share new work in progress over several pages along with accompanying introductory text. This printed output will then invite discussion and critique from audiences in a series of moderated online sessions (the second part of the project). These will seek to encourage more participation, constructive debate, and discussion amongst photographers and audiences using 'live' work and early stage projects as a stimulus. We want to revive the valuable, if at times robust, 'group critique' experience familiar to those who studied photography or Art at University or Arts School.
A limited number of copies of the 48-page first issue of CHAOTIC will be available on the day. (Supporters of the printed Offline Journal with a current Subscriber Plus subscription will receive their copy of CHAOTIC by post shortly after the event.
The event will be an excellent opportunity to meet and talk with other active members of the photography community in South Wales (and a couple of invaders making the trek from Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion!).
And of course, representing Offline Journal on the day, I'm always interested in hearing of, and seeing, new work and photography projects being created in and of Wales, so please do grab me for a chat!
Join us for the day – or even just an hour – of stimulating photozines, photography prints and relaxed discussion in the wonderful setting of The Turner House gallery in Penarth – and view their new 2025 OPEN Exhibition on the walls whilst you're there!
