joining the dots..

'joining the dots..' by Abergavenny-based artist-photographer David Morgan-Davies presents thirty-nine photographs in his first self-published photobook. Created over two years during the Covid pandemic, the work documents a series of seven walks through the post-industrial landscape of Blaenafon using expired 35mm film stocks.
Offline Journal editor Brian Carroll spoke with Morgan-Davies about his motivation to make the work and determination to self-publish the project as a document on the historically-important Blaenafon landscape.
Above is a short preview clip, but you can listen to the full 28-minute conversation - free - via the link below, along with more information on the book and the photographer.
David Morgan-Davies will have copies of the book available to purchase at the SIGNATURES PHOTOZINE & PRINT DAY at The Turner House gallery in Penarth on 20 September (see next item below).

PHOTOZINE & PRINT DAY
Saturday 20 September 2025 : 11am - 3.30pm
Offline Journal and Turner House will be hosting a new photozine and photographer social event in Penarth on Saturday 20 September 2025. The event is free to attend and all photography fans are welcome to come along and explore a wide range of self-published photography books.
And if you have any examples of your own experiments in photozines – dummies, artist book and/or printed – do bring them along to show myself and others. New additions to the 'BOX OF ZINES' collection of Welsh photozines are always welcome, and will join others in the growing collection to be shown at The Northern EYE Festival in Colwyn Bay this October.
The event will also see the unveiling of the new CHAOS group project publication, sharing new project work in-progress by seven photographers.
Some photographers will also have affordable (and collectable!) photographic prints available - some exclusive to this event!
Joining Offline Journal to offer affordable photozines, photobooks and prints on 20 September will be:
• Marc Arkless
• Clwb Ffoto
• Phil Cope
• Yasmin Crawford
• John Crerrar
• Pete Davis
• Glenn Edwards
• David Mayne
• Ron McCormick
• David Morgan-Davies
• Walter Waygood
I hope you can join us for a relaxed day of meeting and chatting with talented photographers, and take the opportunity to support some great examples of photography self-publishing in Wales.

50 PLUS...

Another recent photobook from Wales is '50 PLUS...' by David Collyer, co-designed by the photographer and published through Wirral-based Fistful of Books.
Originated as a project concept by Collyer when his 50th birthday was fast approaching, the book presents a series of portraits celebrating middle-age men "bearing the hallmarks of youthful rebellion and tribal fashion".
The above short preview clip has David Collyer describe his desire to include some personal statements from the distinctive men photographed. You can listen to the full conversation with David and myself discussing the book and his approach to making the images - free - via the link below.
